today i was thinking about Boot Harbour. My grandmother lived there before my father was born. There was once a community there. but now there are just trees. A few cottages/cabins dot the shoreline. but the area where the town was is overgrown with trees. An adventurous explorer can find the old graveyard. there once was a path, but now you just have to "stumble" upon the site. I really enjoy exploring the area. and look forward to the next time i can go there. I want to hike up the hill, and across the field, if there is a field there now. and thru the trees. young alders ad asplings. thru the thickening woods. and find that first headstone. it makes you excited to find them. I like to read the dates. William Taylor. died 1899. Frederick Thistle. died 1904. who were these peole, relatives of friends many generations back. maybe a few relatives of my own. the headstones are in good shape. excellent even, perhaps the overgrowth of trees has protected them from the harsh winds, rain and sun. the elements is what ruins them. on my next trip to Boot Harbour, i hope to bring some paper and chalk and attempt a rubbing or two of the stones. to really capture the writings. perhaps i will go this year. perhaps i will go this summer.
I really want to upload pictures from Boot Harbour, but for some reason keep getting ERROR messages. I will upload them in my next blog.
